Saint Matthew sets forth the Kingliness of Christ. He designed his writing for the Jew first, recognizing Israel's unique role in the plans of God. Matthew appeals to their expectation of the coming Messiah Who shall Reign as King Supreme. In addition to symbols of kingliness in this window, note the earthy scenes of sky, hills, children and the very human form of Jesus. Matthew recognized the Incarnation and Passion of Christ, even while emphasizing His Kingliness when presenting Jesus as Messiah. Matthew's symbol is The Winged Man.
